About Camp Mendocino
Camp Mendocino is owned and operated by Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco, a 127-year old San Francisco institution dedicated to the youth who need us most.
Camp Mendocino is an outdoor education and environmental awareness program focused on the character and leadership development of kids from disadvantaged circumstances. For 87 years, Boys & Girls Clubs of San Francisco has been providing this creative, fun and supportive camping experience for youth ages eight to 18. We surround our kids with positive role models 24 hours a day to provide the love and encouragement they need to realize their full potential.
Today the Camp sits on nearly 2,000 acres, all dedicated to the character and leadership development of kids from disadvantaged circumstances.
Camp Mendocino works with the teens in three different programs:
The Leaders in Training (LIT) program is a job readiness and character development program for teens age 15-17. Most campers idolize the LITs, and cannot wait to become one. The LITs serve as role models, support staff members at Camp, generate enthusiasm, and walk away with so many skills.
In the LIT program, teens will run the dining hall, shadow adult staff members, and participate in workshops including: communication, conflict resolution, money management, resume writing, interviewing, and youth development.
Camp Council is a focus group that brings together campers, LITs and Camp leadership to ensure youth voice is always heard. During the offseason (September-April) members of Camp Council meet with Camp leadership once a month to brainstorm and plan a variety of different activities, programs and ways to make Camp Mendocino an even better place to spend summer. During the summer, members of the Camp Council will meet with the Assistant Camp Director for Programs and Camp Director to discuss how Camp is going as well as assist with Camp events.
The Camp2College program is a year-round program for teens that have have excelled in the LIT Program, preparing them for a post-secondary education or a defined plan for after high school. The program focuses on their future and looks to assist in preparing them for next stage of their lives.
The Camp2College program provides Camp Mendocino teens with educational and professional opportunities both inside and out of Boys & Girls Club of San Francisco. Teens attend monthly workshops covering topics ranging from college applications to transcript evaluations to different careers. Teens also have access to Camp and BGCSF staff as a support system.
TheCamp2College program strives to develop our young teens into the future leaders of tomorrow.
